Sun Protection
- PROTECT THE MARINE RESERVE: Avoid using sunscreens that contain oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Reef-Friendly sunscreen is available for purchase at the dive center.
- Sun protective clothing like long-sleeve rash guards are a great alternative to sunscreen and are available for purchase.
- The chemicals found in regular sunscreens are harmful to coral. Their tiny particles can be ingested, leading to toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens avoid these toxic ingredients. Reef-SAFE sunscreens avoid harmful chemicals AND use ‘non-nano’ particles that are too large to be absorbed by corals, thus protecting marine ecosystems.
- If you’re looking at a mineral-based formula, be sure it says ‘non-nano’
What You’ll See & Do
Meet up with your group at our dive center located in central Rincón, and prepare to leave either in the morning or afternoon (depending on the trip you’ve selected). After being fitted with snorkel gear, your guide will give you a briefing on the location and what marine life you can expect to see at the snorkel site.
Next, you’ll proceed to the beach and onto the day’s chosen snorkel site. Transportation from the dive center is not included in the tour so you will need to make your way there in your own vehicle.
Once at the beach we’ll wade in and start swimming to the reef. Your guide will be with you all the way and there to support you if you need it. Enjoy the underwater delights of the Tres Palmas Reserve as you explore the snorkel site. Your location will vary depending on the day’s weather, ocean conditions, and your experience level – we consider all these points to ensure your experience is as enjoyable as possible. No matter what location you end up visiting, you’re sure to have a unique experience discovering the majestic world beneath the waves. Expect to see a variety of fish, coral, and even sea turtles!
Finish your snorkeling trip on the beach and spend the rest of the day relaxing and soaking up the sun’s rays
Answers to Your Questions
No boat is required to get to the beautiful reefs in Rincón, we swim there from the beach.
We recommend using your own transportation for this activity. On certain occasions, with advance notice, we may be able to arrange for pickup at one of the local hotels in Rincón. Additional charges may apply.
No, we will provide snorkelers with flotation aids so you don’t need to know how to swim. However, you do need to be comfortable in the water as we will spend 1 hour on the reef. Snorkelers will be provided with snorkeling equipment, life vests and, if preferred, snorkeling noodles for flotation. Guides will instruct on snorkeling techniques for beginners.
A group tour may have participants who don’t know each other. If you have smaller children or need extra attention, guides may not be able to give you the best service without compromising the safety and enjoyment of other participants. Also, if you want a more personal service, hire a private guide by booking a Private Guided Snorkeling or diving tour.
We would recommend selecting the private tour option for a more customized experience.
