- It is important to drink plenty of water before arrival for hydration.
Sun Protection
- PROTECT THE MARINE RESERVE: Avoid using sunscreens that contain oxybenzone, octinoxate, and parabens. Reef-Friendly sunscreen is available for purchase at the dive center.
- Sun protective clothing like long-sleeve rash guards are a great alternative to sunscreen and are available for purchase.
- The chemicals found in regular sunscreens are harmful to coral. Their tiny particles can be ingested, leading to toxicity and coral bleaching. Reef-friendly sunscreens avoid these toxic ingredients. Reef-SAFE sunscreens avoid harmful chemicals AND use ‘non-nano’ particles that are too large to be absorbed by corals, thus protecting marine ecosystems.
- If you’re looking at a mineral-based formula, be sure it says ‘non-nano’
What You’ll See & Do
Begin your introduction to the world of mermaid certifications with us in the beautiful waters of Rincon, Puerto Rico!
There are three phases to the certification:
- Knowledge Development- PADI eLearning
- On land~ knowledge review and proper human to mermaid warm-ups
- One Confined Water Skill session
Your course will start with a briefing from a professional PADI Mermaid instructor. They will teach you about the essential mermaid equipment and how to use it followed by a mind and body calming warm-up stretching session and a breath-hold procedure review.
Next, we’ll head to the water for your confined water skills session. Your instructors will be guiding you the whole way through and checking that you feel confident to proceed. This is where you will practice your safe mermaiding procedures, your dolphin kick, and your duck dives.
Once you have passed the course, you will receive your first mermaid certification! What’s next, mermaid? The PADI Mermaid program was designed to help you follow your dreams in a safe and fun way! Check out the rest of the PADI Mermaid Program and see where you can go from here.
